Qiuwen Chen, Associate Editor for JoE

Cellular automata and application to ecohydraulics modelling

Dr. Qiuwen Chen received his MSc from IHE Delft, and PhD from TU Delft. He is currently a fulltime professor of Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute.

Dr. Chen had made outstanding contribution to the fundamentals and applications of ecohydraulics. He is the pioneer who explored the integration of discrete paradigm (cellular automata) for ecological module and continuous formulation for flow module to establish a novel angle in ecohydraulics modeling. Applications of the achievements in engineering practice of reservoir eco-operations have brought visible benefits to hydropower production and river ecosystem conservation.

He has published 170 peer-reviewed journal papers, 4 books and 3 book chapters. There are more than 90 paper in SCI, and 25 in EI. The Web of Science Citations is 806, and Web of Science H-Index is 14. He has received 7 national and international awards. In particular, he was awarded ‘National Leading Scholar for Science and Technology Innovation’ in 2015, ‘The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars’ in 2014, ‘100 Talents of Chinese Academy of Science’ in 2010.
